Explore With Us the Avalanche of News About Covid, Vaccinations and What Community Must Do To Get Back To 'Normal'

The “firehose” effect of information coming at us about Covid-19, including hopeful news about availability of vaccinations, is somewhat daunting. To help sort thru the avalanche of news and opinions, Waimea Community Association’s Virtual Town Meeting at 5:30 p.m., Thurs., April 1, 2021 will bring together respected boots-on-the-ground medical experts and community leaders for a Covid update and to answer community questions.

Leading off the virtual discussion will by Hawai’i Lt. Governor Josh Green, M.D., followed by Christopher Russell, a Physician’s Assistant with West Hawai’i Community Health Centers, Dr. James Madison with Queen’s North Hawai’i Community Hospital, and Dr. Scott Cassidy with Ali’i Health Center.

Also participating in the Covid mitigation and vaccination discussion will be Kahu Billy Mitchell, Dr. Ron Ah Loy, Dr. Claren Kealoha-Beaudet with Kipuka O Ke Ola Native Hawaiian Health Clinic, and licensed family counselor Makela Bruno Kidani.

The meeting will be streamed “live” on the association’s Facebook page and community members are invited to submit questions by emailing: WaimeaCommunityAssociation@gmail.com. The meeting will be saved to Facebook and YouTube to be available for watching later.

Also on the agenda will be Waimea’s two County Council Members Heather Kimball (District 1) and Dr. Tim Richards (District 9), and Lt. Robert Pauole with Hawai’i County Police Department. Lt. Pauole is currently our acting Waimea Police Captain.

The spotlighted non-profit for the monthly town meeting will be Friends of the Future represented by Susan Maddox. With her will be Donni Sheather, who coordinates the Waimea Grab ‘N Go Food Rescue Program that distributes free drive-thru meals every Friday from 4:30 p.m. at Minukeole Park behind Parker Ranch Center. As usual, virtual attendees will be encouraged to support the spotlighted non-profit either by contributing direct online to Friends of the Future, or via Waimea Community Association’s website – indicating the gift is for Friends of the Future as fiscal sponsor for the Grab ‘N Go food program.
